Snow Day Excitement

One question that I like to ask people that I coach is, “If you didn’t have to go to class or your job tomorrow but still had to ‘work’, what type of work would you do?” The purpose of this question is to find out their underlying interest/passion. Because hopefully, if you were free to choose what you did tomorrow, you would choose something that makes you happy. But I’ve started reading, “The 4-Hour Workweek”,  and Timothy Ferriss has offered one great alternative for questions like “What do you want?”, “What are you goals?”, and “What makes you happy?” Ferriss says that,

“Most people will never know what they want. Excitement is the more practical synonym for happiness, and it is precisely what you should strive to chase. It is the cure-all”

When I received the email this morning that the university was closed due to an impending storm, I was beyond happy to spend the day at home catching up. The thought of having an entire day to read, research, and blog gave me such a boost of energy that I was wide awake at 5 a.m.! Opening that email felt like opening an unexpected gift. If I wasn’t sure before, then I definitely am now; reading and blogging excites me!

So my question to  you as you begin  figuring out your life’s purpose is, “What excites you?”

What wakes you up at 5 a.m. on your day off?

What do you do when the snow has you trapped indoors?

What makes you excited to wake up and be you for the day?

  1. Writing a good blog post excites me! Hearing the “dings” from my phone as people begin to “like” and comment! I live on the island of Guam so people from the states are waking up when I’m going to bed. After I hit “publish”, I have to keep my phone in the living room because when the “dings” come in, I can’t help but roll over and read them!
